Vietnam does not have amazing beaches like Thailand. Is it not known for its friendly people, either. Vietnam is dirty, loud and full of tourist scam. Vietnamese people can be rude and impertinent. There is no Great Wall, no Angkor Wat. But this is the place I come from although I am neither insider nor outsider here. Every time I visit, I discover new wonderful things. Here, beauty lies in subtleness. Streets lined with cafes and bars, little rice paddies and lonely beaches. People can be friendly, they like to chat – from cafe owner to passport control. If a Vietnamese takes a liking to you, he or she will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
There are many different opinions when it comes to visiting Vietnam, ranging from ‘worst holiday ever’ to ‘dream destination’. I strongly encourage you to come visit to make up your own mind!
(I might be a little bit biased, but reasons to visit: amazing coffee, good shopping if you are a size 8, a capital with a rural feel, pretty girls riding motorbikes in high heels and of course, the food.)
